Happy Mothers Day!
There’s nothing quite like a summer morning in New Buffalo — the calm waves, the soft glow of early sunlight, and the sound of gulls overhead. As a photographer in New Buffalo, these moments are what I live for. I love capturing families as they laugh, explore, and soak in the beauty of the lakeshore. The beaches here are pristine and peaceful, the water crystal clear, and the shoreline stretches endlessly toward neighboring harbor towns. It’s a special place, and for me, it’s home. I grew up spending my summers here, and nothing makes me happier than helping families preserve their own New Buffalo memories.
One of the most meaningful sessions I’ve photographed was a gifted family photo session from a mother to her daughter — a daughter who had now become a mother herself to three beautiful little girls. It was a celebration of generations, love, and the quiet magic of family traditions carried forward. A Mothers Day Gift that would last a lifetime.
We met during golden hour, when the evening sun wrapped the shoreline in soft amber light. The golden glow danced across the tiny tiptoes and smiling faces of three angelic ballerinas as they twirled barefoot through the sand, hugged each other tightly, and laughed with pure joy. Their energy was playful and tender all at once — the kind of fleeting moment every parent wishes they could hold onto forever.
As the sun began to set and our session came to a close, something unexpectedly beautiful happened. The girls’ grandmother spotted a penny tucked into the sand. She gently picked it up and told the girls it was a sign of good luck — a reminder that their great-grandmother Penny was watching over them that evening. Suddenly, the moment became even more meaningful. The girls held the penny carefully in their tiny hands, smiling as the lake breeze drifted around them.
Those are the moments I treasure most as a photographer — not just the beautiful portraits, but the stories, connections, and memories woven quietly in between. In Michigan, along the shores of Lake Michigan, family memories have a way of feeling timeless
