There’s nothing quite like a summer morning in New Buffalo, Michigan — the calm waves, the soft glow of early sunlight, and the sound of gulls overhead. As a New Buffalo photographer, these moments are what I live for. I love capturing families as they laugh, explore, and soak up the beauty of the lakeshore. For some, it’s their very first time experiencing the pure joy of Pure Michigan, and for others, it’s a beloved tradition — the annual trip they look forward to all year long.

Every summer, we pack up the cars and head toward the water — towards this small harbor town where life just moves a little slower. The beaches here are pristine and peaceful, the water crystal clear, and the shoreline stretches endlessly toward neighboring harbor towns. It’s a special place, and for me, it’s home. I grew up spending my summers here, and nothing makes me happier than helping families preserve their own New Buffalo memories.

The T Family found me on a local Facebook chat group and reached out early in the season to lock in their session — because we all know how quickly Michigan summers fly by! We met bright and early at 8 a.m., before the beach filled with umbrellas and colorful towels, and the light was absolutely perfect. Their photos turned out beautifully — full of smiles, connection, and those carefree summer vibes that make this time of year so magical.

There’s something so meaningful about being a Ventura Beach family photographer and getting to capture the same family year after year. Over the past four years, I’ve had the joy of photographing this wonderful crew — watching the kids grow, their personalities shine, and their love for each other deepen with every session.

This year, we met at Ventura Beach during golden hour, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The soft, glowing light, the sound of the ocean, and that unmistakable California warmth set the tone for an unforgettable evening.
